![]() ![]() However, my favorite Disney moments are when I can create Disney magic for someone else, and that’s what I’m most excited about with this collection. Growing up in Orlando, FL and having my dad as a Walt Disney World Resort cast member, I have too many Disney memories to choose just one! I grew up with Disney, and most of my fondest memories have to do with Disney. It’s an energy that surrounds us and binds us, and I like to call Disney my love language. It’s my wish that all fans will feel Ahsoka’s strength and hope when they wear or carry this collection.ĭisney magic is just like the Force. A lot has happened in our world since the last D23 Expo, and I like to refer to these wearable pieces of hope and reminders to be “Guided by the Light.” I worked with my good friend, Bret Iwan (the official voice of Mickey Mouse), on this collection and all the pieces have reflective accents or symbols of light. In so many ways, Ahsoka represents light –she inspires us to never give up hope, no matter how dark things seem. When Disney reached out and asked me to create a Star Wars fashion collection influenced by Ahsoka Tano, I knew that this collection needed to inspire the wearer, just like Ahsoka inspires the fans. What inspired you to create this collection? ![]() D23 Expo fast approaches and debuting at the show and on is the new Guided by the Light Collection by Ashley Eckstein, and here she explains the concept behind the new collection with Disney Parks Blog. ![]()

While on one level it’s a straight up, almost typical, police procedural – a Scotland Yard DCI (that’s Detective Inspector to you) takes a young DC (that’s Detective Constable, the lowest rank) under his wing. ![]() This has one of the odder set ups I’ve ever encountered in a mystery novel. After feverishly reading this one in a day, I can absolutely see why (and I plan on reading the next two as quickly as possible). How has this terrifically inventive series slipped under the radar? This was one of our breakout books at Christmas when we could hardly order copies fast enough, and when I was recently at Malice Domestic, we sold lots of copies and one woman even told me she’d come to the conference specifically to meet Ms. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Common reasons for challenging the book include its sexual references and conflict with "traditional family structure," with some saying schools and libraries should not "put books in a child's hand that require discussion." It ultimately became the fifth-most banned book between 20. However, the book has remained controversial to some parents and teachers, leading it to be listed on the American Library Association's list of the 10 Most Challenged Books of 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020 (topping the list in 2018, 2019, and 2020). The novel has received positive feedback from sources such as the New York Times and the National Public Radio for its inclusion of transgender experiences. In 2021, Gino retitled the novel Melissa. Scholastic first published the novel on August 25, 2015, and it has had a mixed reaction because of its LGBT+ content. Melissa uses the class play, Charlotte's Web, to show her mom that she is a girl by switching roles with her best friend, and playing the part of Charlotte. The rest of the world sees Melissa as George, a boy. The novel tells the story of Melissa, a fourth-grade girl who is struggling to be herself to the rest of the world. Melissa, previously published as George until April 2022, is a children's novel about a young transgender girl written by American author Alex Gino. ![]() ![]() ![]() He is one of the few leads she has in her best friend’s disappearance, and she doesn’t trust him. The thing I really disliked is the lack of world building. But in this story it was unrealistically overdone and out of balance. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t have anything against strong female characters and I do certainly enjoy reading about underdogs getting to where they deserve to be by hardship, it doesn't matter if that is a girl or a guy. In this book there are multiple story lines again, varying from a potentially apocalyptic alien take-over to a feminist ‘political’.
