Simon’s medical training began in 1833 when he was an apprentice to Joseph Henry Green, a Surgeon at St Thomas's Hospital and professor of surgery at King’s College. Through his promotion and efforts to improve public health, Simon transformed the idea of sanitation, and this led to the establishment of modern standards of public health service.
